Originally sold new on September 9, 1989, to a schoolteacher from Lincolnton, GA, this 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer has a fascinating ownership story. Due to the high cost of commuting daily from Lincolnton to Augusta, the original owner traded it in about a year later at Gerald Jones Honda, located on Gordon Highway in Augusta, GA. The powerful 360 V8, while reliable, proved too thirsty for her daily commute.
The second owner, Mr. Cole, purchased the Wagoneer from Gerald Jones Honda on December 13, 1990, for the considerable sum of $12,375. Since then, the Grand Wagoneer has remained with the Cole family in the Augusta area, meticulously cared for and enjoyed by the same family for over three decades. The Cole family provided a sizeable history file of routine maintenance, ownership history, sales does, and expenditures the last few years reconditioning the aesthetics of this Wagoneer. Unmolested and rust free, this Wagoneer is a unicorn on the market. The only upgrade is the Kenwood KDC-X302 head unit (although the original comes with the sale) and a pair of Kenwood Excelon 5.25” Coax speakers.
This particular Grand Wagoneer is finished in Midnight Blue Metallic, with the signature faux woodgrain paneling that defined the iconic look of this luxury SUV. It sits on 14-spoke 15×7 alloy wheels, which perfectly complement its rugged, yet refined appearance. Traction stays on the ground thanks to the 235/75R15 Hankook Optima H724 tires that provide a quiet on road ride.
Interior and Dimensions
The interior boasts a luxurious Tan leather upholstery with Cumberland Cord fabric inserts, offering a blend of comfort and retro style. The spacious cabin provides ample room for passengers and cargo, making it ideal for family trips and adventures. The front power seats are plush and comfortable for any driving conditions. The deep plush tan carpets are in great condition and the headliner was replaced by Redmond’s Auto Upholstery in Augusta, GA. There is plenty of woodgrain and luxury finishes for the Shiek of Dubai to be happily rolling a Wagoneer in 1988! An aftermarket cupholder (popular throughout the 90’s) is placed on top of the transmission tunnel and not permanently mounted. The ash tray shows zero signs of smoking and is immaculately clean.
