This 1966 GMC pickup left the factory as a two-wheel drive model equipped with an inline-six engine, and it was acquired by the seller in 2017 and retrofitted with a replacement frame, a 396ci V8, a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission, and a dual-range NP205 transfer case. The truck is finished in red, and highlights of the build include a Dana 60 front axle, a 14-bolt rear axle, 17” wheels, 35” tires, ventilated disc brakes, and Fox shocks. Additional features include a Chevrolet-style grille, a full-view rear window, aftermarket instrumentation, air conditioning, a retro-style stereo, and square-weave carpeting. This GMC pickup is now offered with a commercial California title in the name of the seller’s trust that lists the truck as a 1965 model year.
The short-bed pickup body has been fitted to a replacement frame that the seller states was sourced from a 1972 Chevrolet K10. Finished in weathered red paint, it features a Chevrolet-style grille and tailgate as well as a full-view rear window, dual exhaust outlets, and a wide-side bed with wood paneling. “Custom” badging appears on the B-pillars. The doors have been repainted.
The 17” wheels are mounted with 35×12.50” BFGoodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM3 tires. The truck features manually locking front hubs, ventilated disc brakes, and Fox shock absorbers.
A replacement bench seat trimmed in beige upholstery was installed during the build along with square-weave carpeting. Cabin features include air conditioning, a retro-style stereo, and lap belts.
The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a horizontal 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges, while ancillary readouts are provided in a digital display. The odometer indicates 125 miles, which is said to represent the distance driven since the completion of the build.
The replacement 396ci V8 was installed during the build and features an aluminum radiator and chrome-finished valve covers. The fuel lines and exhaust system were replaced during the project.
A TH350 three-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range NP205 transfer case, and replacement driveshafts are said to have been installed during the build. The seller states that a Dana 60 front axle and a 14-bolt rear axle with 4.10:1 gearing have also been fitted.
Photos from before and during the project are provided in the gallery below.
The sequence I1001PF40092A shown above is consistent with a 1966 GMC pickup produced at the Pontiac, Michigan, assembly facility and appears as the VIN on the California title with a “1” in place of the letter “I.”
