Not sure if it’s the KC Lights covers or the eye popping orange over white paint, but this rig makes us happy. If you buy it from Streetside Classics, we bet you’d be happy too. This 1977 International Harvester Scout II Rallye convertible is a dazzling restomod that was completed earlier this year and is being offered for $54,995, a fair price for such a unique and well-restored example. Buy it. Be happy.
A Rallye Edition Package IH Scout II
We’ve covered a bunch of International Harvester Scouts here on Fourbie Exchange, and every single one is our new favorite. The IH Scout, or in this case the IH Scout II was a 4x4 produced in Fort Wayne, Indiana by a company most well-known for its badass farm equipment. Seeing an opportunity coming out of the increasing popularity of the Jeep and the outdoor lifestyle movement, IH turned its attention to creating what is considered by many as the first modern SUV, and they did it right.
Tough as nails and handsome to boot, the original Scout was a 4-cylinder with a fold-down windshield, while the Scout II was similar in design aesthetic, but added a much nicer interior and V8 power. The Scout and second-generation Scout II were both offered as two-door trucks with a removable hard top with options of a full-length roof, half-cab pickup (roadster), and/or a soft top. This example is configured as a roadster with the Rallye package. The Rallye package was $611 dealer cost, and included 15x7” chrome slotted wheels, chrome lug nuts and axle end plates, radial HR78 tires, Rallye stripes, 1-3/16" bore shock absorbers and power steering.
In the open we hinted that we think Streetside Classics has this one fairly priced for today’s market. The proof is in the pudding, or more accurately, in the data. The chart below from Classic.com shows the sales history for Scout IIs over the last 12 months, and the average of all of those sales (97 documented, to be exact) is $42,851. That includes a couple of restomods that went for eye popping figures of over $120,000! But the real story is if you look at the examples that fall at or near the $56,995 asking price of this example. The plain facts are that it’s difficult to find one that’s on par with the quality and configuration of this restoration. See for yourself below:
The Specs.
