A mega-restored GMC Blue Chip Series with all four wheels driven is a magical thing. This is one of those, and it’s for sale at Gateway Classic Cars’ Tampa Bay showroom for $98,000. This 1957 GMC 100 NAPCO 4x4 is a 2017 restoration that has had a full mechanical rebuild including its NAPCO Powr-Pak and numbers matching 347 cubic inch V8 motor. It has also undergone a thorough exterior restoration including incredible chrome brightwork all around, a wood lined rear bed and last but certainly not least a glorious coat of Cumulus Blue paint.

The 1957 GMC 100 With A NAPCO Powr-Pak
The GMC 100 was part of the GMC Blue Chip Series, an upmarket version of the Chevrolet Task Force, a line of trucks that preceded the venerated Chevy C/K line. Produced from 1955 to 1959, this line of trucks featured a much more angular, less-rounded design than their GMC New Design predecessor.
The thing about the pickup trucks of the mid to late 1950s is that they were largely only rear wheel driven. But through a partnership with Northwestern Auto Parts Company (known in the industry as NAPCO), the Big 3 offered a 4WD conversion that you could order installed straight from the factory. They were extremely rare, with some estimates saying there were as few as 2,000 offered.
And boy, is this one glorious. Just look at it:
The Specs & Condition.
Restored in 2017, this truck is spotless. Its factory set of gauges read 77,804 prior to the restoration, and only 24 miles since, and a quick peek at the underbody photos confirms this thing hasn’t seen much dirt. You can also clearly tell in those photos that this truck has been through a restoration of the highest quality.
According to Gateway Classic Cars, several builders were involved in this work, including The Big Machine in Sarasota, Florida who did the engine rebuild, and Jim Dowell Transmission who handled all of the transmission and driveline components including the NAPCO Powr-Pak rebuild. Scott Ashman Autobody was involved with the bodywork and paint, and finally Jim Taylor Automotive handled final assembly and mechanical items. They’re all artists.
