There's just something so captivating about a classic JDM truck. The unique aesthetic, the understated capability, and the hyper-focus on a core spread of functionality. These factors mix together with aplomb to create a rare bread of mini and light-duty truck that we seldom see in the U.S., but when we do, oh boy - it's something special.
This 1995 Mitsubishi Canter is, of course, no exception. It was originally purpose-built for fire service, but today is ready to be repurposed as a camper, overlander or heck, a somewhat impractical but extremely cool driver.
It features just 12,000 miles and a 4D35 4.6L I4 diesel, 5-speed manual, 4-wheel drive, fully-functional siren, double-cab, and absolutely beastly 37 in. Maxxis RAZRs. It's a nimble, highly-capable unit thanks to its short wheelbase, structural rigor, and light weight.
And, of course, it can be yours, courtesy of JDM Offroad in Everett, Washington, for the asking price of $59,000.
What is the Mitsubishi Canter?
Since 1963, the Mitsubishi Canter has been a commercial-oriented light-duty truck marketed in 150 countries across the globe, taking on thankless jobs with hardly a fuss due their capable, yet low-frill build language. The original Canter had a 2 ton payload, but narrow and wide variants were introduced along the way to scale down to 1.5 tons, or up to 5.0 tons. However, 1.5 tons to 3.0 tons are the most common variations.
The sixth generation Canter, produced from 1993 through 2001 in Japan before being replaced by the seventh generation in 2002, is the generation to which this particular '95 subscribes. The sixth generation offered payloads between 1.5-4 tons. Several engine options were available throughout the production run with displacement ranging from 1.9L to 5.2L, both naturally aspirated and turbocharged options, and both petrol and diesel choices.
Further, the Canter was offered as either a single or double cab, with the latter being a far less common option - making this particular Canter a nice find.
The Specs & Condition.
We just love this 1995 Mitsubishi Canter, and we think you will, too. It's a highly-capable 4x4 with enough practicality and rarity bundled in a well-kept and low-mileage shell to make it a fantastic collector grab. Further, the quirky JDM aesthetic deservingly garners attention wherever you may choose to take it.
JDM Offroad notes that the firebox will be replaced by an Australian UTE style truckbed in the near future which will raise the asking price from the current $59,000 tag.
