I bought this LX to use it as a weekend warrior for family camping trips for years to come. To that end, I spent a lot of time and money on OEM parts and professional labor to build it up right, with about $9,000 in documented parts and labor on critical service and maintenance, leaving the next owner a great platform to return it to its full glory for years to come. Unfortunately, circumstances changed and I needed a more practical daily driver. My loss is your gain. It's been lightly modified, but never off-roaded during my ownership. Bid with confidence - you're getting a fantastic cruiser!

  • The second generation Lexus LX 470 was the upscale version of the highly-desirable J100-series Toyota Land Cruiser, known for its extreme reliability, large interior, exceptional build quality, and legendary off-road prowess. It offers three rows of seating for up to eight total passengers, including the iconic foldable / removable rear row for increased utility.
  • Additional factory options include electric folding side mirrors, dual-zone climate control, rear power venting windows, full-time 4WD with four-wheel traction control system (TRAC), limited-slip center locking differential, ABS, Vehicle Skid Control (VSC), color-keyed running boards, and 2 in. tow hitch.
  • This example offers power from a 2UZ-FE 4.7L V8 rated at 230 hp. and 320 lb.-ft. torque. Power is sent to all four wheel via a 4-speed automatic transmission and 2-speed transfer case.
  • The CARFAX indicates an extensive and documented history of Lexus dealership service. The current owner has extensively maintained the vehicle during their approximately 6k miles of ownership. Over $9k maintenance, service, and upgrades have been performed during the current owner’s tenure, including full OEM suspension upgrade, steering rack, radiator fan replacement, new OEM third brake light, new OEM rear chrome trim piece, new drivetrain fluids and filters, wipers, repaired brake lines, Bluetooth dongle, Doug Thorley headers, repaired exhaust leaks (passed emissions 12/2022), OEM brakes on all four corners, replaced axle assembly, tire balance, alignment, and rotation, 1.25 in. Spidertrax wheel spacers, and hood struts.
  • Per the CARFAX, comprehensive service was concluded at 200k miles including new fluids, thermostat, water pump, timing belt, timing belt tensions/idler, gaskets, spark plugs, and a tire rotation.
  • The Adjustable Height Control (AHC) system was professionally replaced with a full OEM Toyota Land Cruiser fixed suspension components, including OEM springs, shocks, and torsion bars. The original AHC components are still installed but bypassed (no known associated warning lights), and can be removed, resold, or repaired at the buyer’s discretion.
  • Known flaws are viewable in the photo gallery and include miscellaneous dents, chips, and scratches around the exterior, light wear on the Neoprene seat covers, wear to the leather seats underneath the seat covers, clear coat fade on the passenger side rear quarter panel, rust spot on the driver side rear quarter panel, some rust in the passenger side rear door-jam, and some rust on the undercarriage. Center control panel buttons are fully operable, but tend to stick – a common flaw with this generation. Several switches and toggles have been cleaned and replaced with OEM components. The sunroof is currently inoperable.
  • This example is offered for sale by the current owner with no reserve, a clean and clear title, and a clean CARFAX with no known accidents or mileage discrepancies. Included in the sale is one key and the current owner's service records totaling approximately $9,000 (see "Details" in the gallery).

@brian: I have a friend who owns a body shop. He told me he'd be able to handle something like that for me for a couple hundo (and a case of beer). Probably better him than me, and the arrangement for work w/him is that he has to share the beer with me.
brian Seller

@fitzhugh_devin: Thanks - shame indeed, but that's really the major known flaw. I was quoted about $900 to fix it at a local shop, but would bet a handy person could DIY for less. I went to great lengths to sort it out mechanically.
fitzhugh_devin

Shame about that rust spot, but seems like a pretty easy fix for someone with a body shop hookup. Appreciate all the up-close shots of the flaws, @brian. Nice truck!

@brian: Ok thank you

@bprunner88: While she isn't perfect, the flaws are mostly cosmetic and I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't pass inspection again. Since it passed Maryland State Inspection at the end of last year, a small # of miles have been added and it has continued to be improved substantially by MSI-certified mechanics.
bprunner88

Hi @brian, any reason to believe that this would not still pass MSI + Maryland emissions?

@Fourbie Exchange: Thanks! @BRANDGRAVEYARD, the third row was not outfitted with seat covers, but they stayed in storage during my ownership and remain in good condition.
Fourbie Exchange Admin

@BrandGraveyard: New photos have been provided by the seller. Please see pics #110, #111, and #112 in the updated photo gallery.
BrandGraveyard

I see the pics of the third row seats folded. Can you post a picture with the third row seats fully upright? Do they also have seat covers?

@chazjenz80: Thanks for the bid and question! That is a ScanGaugeII. It plugs into the OBDII and provides reads of the fuel economy, speed (helpful with the oversized tires), engine/coolant temp, and more. Helpful little device and included for the buyer.

What’s the aftermarket device above the steering wheel in photo 55?
BID $2,500 by kingmoab 1 year ago
brian Seller

@phillynate: These big, beautiful beasts do have a bit of a drinking problem, but I'm seeing about 16-17 MPG per the ScanGauge with blended highway/city driving. Comparable to my 4Runner. I've seen some users on IH8MUD claim that the Doug Thorley headers help make it a bit more economical, and I only run premium. Not that I like to, but this LX can still take on the fast lane of the interstate with ease and comfort.
phillynate

@brian: I know fuel economy isn't really the primary selling point on one of these, but do you have an estimate of MPGs?
brian Seller

@steveielee: Thank you!

@jdmmaster827: Thanks for the questions! Keep them coming. 1) I have not attempted to diagnose the sunroof issue. It gets power, but does not slide. There are no known leaks. My original intent was to upgrade the roof rack. And yes! The rear vent windows (and all other widows) work great.
jdmmaster827 Bidder

@brian: Well presented. Couple questions: 1) Have you diagnosed the sunroof issue? 2) I don't see pics of the rear vents open. Are they functional? GLWA

Thank you for viewing the no reserve (!) auction for my 2000 LX 470. I’m excited to pass it to the next caretaker. I’ve owned a lot of cars, but there’s a good reason we call this God’s Chariot: it’s a big, smooth, and capable machine that’s as comfortable as it is reliable. While the next owner may want to improve cosmetics, bid with confidence that this has been mechanically well-maintained and that it’s on its way for the next 200k miles. The accompanying CARFAX confirms mileage, accident-free history, and regular Lexus dealership service. I’ve done my best to present it honestly and truthfully, but please post questions and I will respond quickly. Happy bidding!
