This 1985 Toyota Short Bed Pickup, finished in original Medium Blue (Paint Code 857), was manufactured July 1985 in Japan and was purchased new later that year at Carter Toyota in Newberry, SC. The first owner kept it until 2004 when records show it was sold locally in South Carolina. The second owner kept it until late 2024; only 2 owners for almost 40 years. This truck runs great and has a clean Car Fax and South Carolina title.
Highlights:
- Short Bed 4×4
- Rebuilt 22R with Weber Carb
- New Aisin Clutch Kit
- Only Two Owners from 1985 – 2004
- Southern Vehicle – Sold new in Newberry, SC
- Front Straight Axle
The original 22R 2.4L (2366cc or 144 cubic inch) 4-cylinder engine powers this truck, along with the G52 5-speed manual transmission. The manual hubs engage easily and the four-wheel drive shifts into high and low ranges smoothly—even the dash light works!. The 22R engine rebuild is documented and performed by Precision Cylinder Head of Aiken, SC. A fuel pressure regulator was added as well as a Weber Carb which makes the engine runs smooth. When the engine was removed, a complete Aisin clutch kit was installed and the clutch master cylinder replaced. This 4WD model includes factory options like power brakes, manual front hubs, front tow hook, heavy-duty off-road suspension, crank windows, and bucket seats. We also have an ammo can center console which goes with the sale.
Over the years, a few aftermarket upgrades and accessories were added, such as aluminum radiator for enhanced cooling capacity. The front head lights have been replaced with LED, which is a common and effective upgrade for better lighting at night and reduces amperage draw. A roll bar was previously installed in the bed but removed a long time ago. When we received this truck a toolbox was mounted in back but looks better (IMHO) with it removed. A Sony CD player was installed in favor of the factory with a set of Scosche 6×9 speakers behind the seats in MTX vented boxes.
The axle code G292 reveals an 8.0” rear end with a 4.100:1 gear ratio and 2-pinion setup. The bed, despite years of service, remains in great shape, with only minimal surface rust. A few areas were mitigated with a rust inhibitor by the prior owner, but nothing has been sealed or painted.
The original wheels have been replaced with 17” machined black and silver split spoke design Toyota OEM take-offs. The tires are 265/70R17 Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires and have great tread depth. The original spare is no longer present.
Inside, the blue cloth seats (Trim Code VN81) and vinyl floors show signs of use but remain in good condition. The dashboard features an aftermarket Sony CD player and heat controls. For air conditioning, you’ll need to crank that window down! The dash shows a few cracks, and the passenger side AC vent is missing.
