Okay, we know this isn’t technically a fourbie, but a sixbie is pretty badass too. This Apocalypse Warlord is as tough as its name, and it’s for sale for just a hair under a quarter million dollars at SoFlo Jeeps! If you’ve got money and love trucks, this one’s for you. This monster is begging to be unleashed with only 10 miles on the odometer, so head out to sunny Ft. Lauderdale and drive it home.
The Model.
The Ram 1500 TRX handily won the Motor Trend Truck of the Year award in 2021, with the Motor Trend folks calling it “a game changer” and “a new benchmark that all new supertrucks must beat.” From the factory, it’s a rad 702 horsepower pickup truck that’s been designed to go anywhere. And we mean anywhere. It came stock with a thicker, boxed frame with high-strength steel, which meant that it could do what early F-150 Raptors couldn’t: Land an off-road jump without bending the frame. It also featured a heavily modified off-road spec suspension, handsome 18” wheels with 35” BF Goodrich tires, and 6” of added track width over the stock 1500.
But, despite Ram building a world-class factory rig, the folks at Apocalypse out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida weren’t satisfied with the TRX. They started with the TRX’s stock 6.2-liter supercharged V8 producing 702 horsepower and 650 foot pounds of torque. Then, as they do, they turned this award winning fourbie into a sixbie by taking a stock TRX and adding another axle and set of wheels, along with a thicker .25” steel frame in the rear for added durability. It sits higher off the ground than a standard TRX, and even comes with 7 (seven!) 37-inch mud-terrain tires as standard, including a trick looking RamBar with a spare mounted in the bed. Short of all that, it looks like a truck Ram might have built, which is part of the appeal.
Can you imagine the double takes this thing must get?
The Specs.
As mentioned above, the Warlord is a stock Ram TRX 1500, cranked up to 11. It shares many of the impressive specs of the TRX, but the folks at Apocalypse add some flair where appropriate.
MECHANICAL:
Short of the suspension and the obvious addition of a third axle, this thing is largely a TRX. Here are the important bits:
- 6.2L supercharged hemi V8 w/intercooler
- 8-speed shiftable automatic
- Launch control
- 6 wheel drive
- Automatic locking hubs
- Electronic hi-lo gear selection
- Custom built center axle
SUSPENSION:
The stock TRX features Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive dampers, a nitrogen-charged remote reservoir shock system with ginormous 2.5-inch pistons. These Bilstein shocks boast rigid aluminum construction for strength and heat dissipation with electronic valve damping that allows the Ram team to independently control compression and rebound damping. What that means in practical terms is that it gives Ram engineers the freedom to dial in different shock settings for daily driving, sporty driving, towing, dune running, rock crawling, and even for the occasional airborne flight. The Warlord, of course, features some extra dampers to deal with that whole additional axle thing.
EXTERIOR:
Similar to the mechanical specs, other than having two more wheels than a TRX, it's not too far afield from the stock truck from Ram. And we think that's part of what's so appealing about the Warlord.
- Air intake scoop
- Wide fenders (8” flare)
- LED Smartbeam intelligent headlamps
- “WAR” badging in rear, Hellcat badging
- Armordillo chase rack
INTERIOR:
Similar to the mechanical specs, other than having two more wheels than a TRX, it's not too far afield from the stock truck from Ram. And we think that's part of what's so appealing about the Warlord.
