This 2022 Ford Ranger XLT FX4 was built and immediately modified by the Differential Communications public relations agency in Portland as a media loaner unit, so journalists could evaluate the agency’s clients’ products, like the DECKED Drawer System, Roofnest Condor Overland 2, and Firestone Destination M/T2 tires.
As a result, this truck has appeared in the pages of some of the most elite automotive outlets, including Jalopnik, Autoweek, Expedition Portal, The Inertia, TopSpeed, and more. It’s a pretty cool provenance for an even cooler truck.
The concept behind the build was to build an Aussie-style overland expedition rig that was rugged and capable. The Ranger is a tried and true global midsize platform that is one — if not the — most capable trucks in the industry. Furthermore, underscoring the Ranger’s factory bona fides, accessories were selected that could not only enhance the Ranger but also withstand the most extreme off-road adventures — like the ARB bull bar bumper and full-underbody-length skid plates, for example.
In addition to being supremely comfortable, thanks in large part to the OME BP-51 suspension, and impressively quick, thanks to the Ford Performance tune, this Ranger is unique. Not only is it one of the most overland-outfitted Rangers in the United States, it is also one of just 500 “Sand Edition” Rangers built. This was a special-edition package that dealers could not order. These trucks were built and sent out into the market. So, you had to be lucky to find one at your nearby Ford store to get one, as we were. All of this is to say that you likely won’t find another Ranger quite like this one ever again.
