Frame-Off Restored 1983 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler For Sale.

SOLD $95,000 | JEEP HERITAGE | COLUMBUS, TX

The Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler is, quite frankly, one of the most iconic iterations of one of the most iconic American vehicles of all time. With its long wheelbase, ample ground clearance, and hybrid SUV and truck utility, the Jeep Scrambler is immediately recognizable among the entire lineup of CJ-designated Jeeps that were produced from 1945 to 1986.

This particular CJ-8 Scrambler for sale, offered by Jeep Heritage for $95,000, was comprehensively restored by Toy Box Jeeps and should serve as the new benchmark for similar models. It's powered by a powerful 401 ci. V8 mated to 5-speed manual transmission, and every bolt, dial, chrome piece, and inch of paint shows in phenomenal condition.

What is a Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler?

The Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler was manufactured 1981-1986 in response to a surge in demand for foreign - primarily Japanese - compact pickups. While the Big Three offered badge-engineering variations to capture the American market, Jeep was proudly the only truly American entry. The CJ-8 was the mullet of Jeeps: it looked like a standard CJ from the front, but out back was the cargo space that consumers were demanding.

The Jeep CJ-8 was offered with several powerplant options, including AMC's 2.5L I4 or 4.2L V8. A 4-speed manual transmission was standard, but optional automatic or 5-speed manual were also available.

The cargo bed measured are 61.5 in. x 55.8 in. x 16.4 in., with a tailgate width of 34.5 in. All-in, it offered a 103 in. wheelbase - 10 in. longer than the CJ-7, but it was still a highly-capable off-roader thanks to part-time 4-wheel drive with transfer case and manually locking hubs.

How Much is a Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler Worth?

Approximately 27,792 total Jeep CJ-8 Scramblers were sold during its production run, making it a fairly low volume Jeep. Over the past five years from 2017-2022, per Classic.com, some 107 total examples have been sold with an average price of $28,315 and a high of $81,500, across the reporting sources.

While the asking price of this particular example would be one of the highest recorded sale for a CJ-8, it's well worth every penny to a discerning collector seeking the penultimate Jeep CJ-8.
