They say good things come in 3s. We say great things come in IIIs. Freshly restored to a high degree of originality including only OEM Land Rover or Britpart parts, you can now buy this 1978 Land Rover Series III from the craftsmen at Valdivias Garage in Miami, Florida for an asking price of $42,500.
This beauty boasts its original 2.25L 4-cylinder diesel engine that has been thoroughly rebuilt, all of its original galvanized trim bits, a brand new interior and a positively fetching fresh coat of Tuscan Blue paint.
Looks and drives like a dream–just like it did when it rolled off the factory line in Solihull back in 1978. We want it and you do too, so why don’t you go make it happen?
The Land Rover Series III: The Series' Grand Finale.
The Series III (AKA Series 3), built from 1971 to 1985, was the successor to the wildly popular Land Rover Series IIA which was produced by Rover Company and British Leyland from 1961 to 1971. Although it was considered a new model, it was widely considered a facelift of the Series II–in fact, although it did include some mechanical upgrades over the Series II, many of the parts are interchangeable between the II and III. The Series III was the last generation of the original Land Rover before it was later rebranded as the iconic Defender.

“But Fourbie Exchange, what’s the market for a Series III these days?” Well, I’m glad you asked! Let’s take a look at some valuation data courtesy of our friends at Classic.com. In the last 24 months, Classic.com has logged 74 Series III sales totalling $1.6 million, with prices ranging from $1,480 all the way up to a high sales price of $61,600. Looking at the comps, one that comes the closest is this 1973 Land Rover Series III that was up for auction on Bring a Trailer back in May of 2022. While it didn’t sell, it was bid all the way up to $45,000, leading us to believe $42,500 is a fair asking price for this delicious Series III.
The Condition & Specs.
As mentioned, this Land Rover Series III is a recent restoration by the folks at Valdivias Garage, so it’s in nearly mint condition, as evidenced by the seller-provided photos. During that restoration, they outfitted it with a brand new diesel pump, alternator, clutch, belts, head gasket, full exhaust, headlights, tail lights, front bumper, steps, and some extra accessories. All of the new parts on this beauty are either original Land Rover parts or sourced from Britpart.
