The Hilux truck is a global icon in the automotive world. Beloved for its unkillable nature, this 1999 is powered by the same 3RZ gasoline four banger as our Stateside 4Runners and Tacomas.

Exterior Overview

The Hilux truck is a global icon in the automotive world. Beloved for its unkillable nature, this 1999 is powered by the same 3RZ gasoline four banger as our Stateside 4Runners and Tacomas. Fresh off a recent service, this terrific Toyota is offered with a scant 103k verified and documented miles on the clock. While we missed out on this spacious double-cab body style, this practical pickup is reliable, easy to service, and perfect for year-round use.  Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs, the Black over Lavender Steel (2DN) paint is in fine shape, and this Japanese Classic is adorned by LED headlamps, chrome mirrors and door handles, refinished 15″ alloys, a style bar, and OEM rainguards. Collectible, cool, and capable, this body on frame beast is the stuff legends are made of!

Interior Overview

The cabin is in good shape and includes a number of power amenities. The driver benefits from a tilt adjustable steering column to find the ideal driving position and an SRS airbag equipped steering wheel. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading or fading and the center stack is close by and within arms reach. The A/C and heat function well, and are easy to control. If you prefer more natural ventilation, power windows and a sliding rear window can supplement airflow. Power locks and power mirrors are operational too, and make daily use more enjoyable. An Eclipse head unit with touchscreen functionality pipes in the tunes and keeps your commute lively. The blue and gray upholstery is in good shape and lacks any major rips, stains or tears and the matching material in the door cards is in good shape. The headliner and carpets have withstood any major use and abuse over the years, and as a whole, it’s hard to nitpick the cabin.

Mechanical Overview

Built atop a body on frame platform, a quick Google of the Hilux will tell you all you need to know about its ability to withstand abuse. The same can be said for the 3RZ-FE, which shares a bevy of parts with US models and is fresh off an oil and filter service here in the shop. It cranks over swiftly, and the front main seal, and oil pump were replaced to keep lubricant internal. A new engine air filter and fuel filter provide a bit of a tune up, and four new spark plugs were chucked in to aid ignition. Power is fed through a stout automatic gearbox and the selective transfercase allows the driver to choose between 2WD and 4WD on the fly. For beach outings and trekking down some trails, a low range can also be engaged to keep momentum moving forward. It accelerates confidently enough to safely merge at highway speeds, and from stop light to stop light this pickup feels peppy. To slow down, ABS brakes confidently reel in this quad cab. The power steering is light and the relatively tight exterior dimensions make this Toyota easy to park in the confines of the city. The power steering is direct and on point, thanks to a new steering stabilizer, and the refinished 15″ wheels are wrapped in new Falken rubber. The fresh all-terrains look killer, and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come, as we’ve freshly aligned this rig!
