Before the Silverado became one of the most popular model lines of all time for the bow tie, it was a trim level for its legendary C/K line of trucks that GM produced from 1960 all the way through 2002 under both the Chevrolet and GMC marques. Most commonly associated with pickup trucks, the C/K actually encompassed a wide range of vehicles such as chassis-cab trucks, medium-duty trucks and full-size SUVs. With C denoting 2wd and K reserved for the 4wd models, this model was GM’s response to the Ford F-Series and the Dodge D series (Dodge Ram). 

This particular model is a third generation C/K series, a generation which introduced an all-new clean sheet redesign, considered revolutionary in appearance at the time–particularly the cab, departing from typical American pickup truck designs. This new design became colloquially known as the square body generation. 

The third-generation pickups were offered in multiple equipment level packages or trim packages, including the Scottsdale, Silverado, Cheyenne Sierra, and others. This particular trim level, the Silverado, replaced the Cheyenne Super as the top of the line trim starting in 1975. Although it included the comfort equipment that you’d expect to see on the top of the line models, the Silverado also included features like heavier insulation designed to make it quieter on the road and ideal for road trips. It came with fancier door panels, seats, and polished trim on the dash and glove box.
