The Toyota 4Runner is one awesome fourbie with a storied legacy and admiration within the 4x4 community. Even if your domain is restricted to the highways, the 4Runner offers plenty of comfort, options, space, and utility for savvy car buyers.
This 2016 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro 4x4 from M&M Investment Cars in Oregon is no exception - offering rugged good looks with extreme off-road capability.
WHAT IS THE TRD PRO PACKAGE?
This 4Runner was equipped from the factory with the TRD Pro trim - a distinction reserved for Toyota's top off-road 4x4 performance parts and accessories.
From the factory, the 2016 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro came with Bilstein coil-overs and shocks, SofTex-trimmed seats, TRD alloy wheels, Nitto Terra Grappler tires, 1.5 inch lift, heavy-duty skid plate, black trim accents, and multi-select Crawl Control - a pretty nifty Toyota option well-demonstrated here:
If there was any doubt that you are driving a 4Runner TRD, there's no shortage of reminders inside or out. The TRD Pro came equipped with TRD PRO external hard badges, TRD-stamped aluminum front skid plate, TRD alloy wheels with TRD center caps, TRD PRO floor mats, TRD shift knob, and TRD stitched seats.
THIS IS THE 4RUNNER YOU WANT.
The TRD Pro variation of the 4Runner is one serious off-road machine.
The 2016 model year came with the 4.0L V6 dual VVT-i - known internally as the 1GR-FE. The 1GR-FE is a quiet, smooth, and reliable engine that, with some basic maintenance and TLC, can carry an owner well past the 200k mile marker. However, it's not without its faults. Early examples of the 1GR-FE experienced water pump and head gasket failure.
Additionally, the 1GR-FE is generally seen as somewhat underwhelming in the power department. But make no mistake: the 270 hp. derived from this V6 is more than willing to take on any off-road challenge.
Plus, you could always tack on a supercharger.
Engine aside, the 4Runner TRD Pro is a simple yet formidible off-roader. It doesn't tow a lot, it doesn't bolt off the line, but if you need to get to the end of the earth, there are few better options.
The more base-level trims of the 4Runner accommodate a 3rd row of seating - popular for families crawling the local mall. But the Trail and TRD Pro trims forego the 3rd row for more cargo space.
And, if the standard equipment on the TRD Pro isn't enough, aftermarket support for the 2016 Toyota 4Runner is enough to keep you and your wallet busy.
The Specs.
At $42,990 and with over 150k miles, this 4Runner is hardly a steal - at first glance. But this variation is equipped with a series of upgrades, maintenance, and a clean CARFAX history.Â
