From stock it sports a class-leading 9.5” of ground clearance (this one adds another 2” of lift and some beefy Toyo Open Country rubbers), an approach angle of 23.5 degrees, a departure angle of 25.4 degrees and a breakover up to 21 degrees. With an ultra-reliable 2.5L boxer engine and Subaru’s symmetrical AWD powering all four wheels, this makes for a competent overlander for the 99% of us that aren’t rock crawling.
In short, it’s a fourbie. And we love it.
ABOUT THE SUBARU FORESTER WILDERNESS
The Subaru Forester, now in the midst of its 5th generation, is a compact SUV built on the Subaru Global Platform (SGP), a modular unibody automobile platform, which is used for most current Subaru models. In addition to a modest facelift, the 2022 model year also received a new trim level, the Wilderness. It sported a .5” lift over standard Foresters, all-terrain tires, a modified final drive ratio, a more heavily fortified roof rack than previous models, Subaru's StarTex water-repellent seats, more body cladding, and on the inside, copper-colored accents.
