It’s a mint condition right hand drive example with 109,000 miles, a number of delicious add ons, and a price tag of $37,000. This truck will move quickly, so go call your bank.
You don’t see 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser HDJ81s with front, center and rear locking differentials every day, and even fewer that are in this condition. This one was imported from Japan in 2021 and comes with all relevant import documents, its factory manuals and a clean Florida title.
THE TOYOTA LAND CRUISER HDJ81
The Toyota Land Cruiser 80 series is an SUV legend, and the HDJ80 (and HDJ81) is a legend among legends. Preceded by the 60 series and followed by the 100 series Land Cruisers, the 80 series Land Cruiser sported rounded fenders and accents that even earned it the nickname “the bubble” in some South American markets. Characteristics of the 80 were coil springs (the first time on a TLC) which gave it a more comfortable ride, a more luxurious interior and all the toughness you could ever expect from something wearing a Land Cruiser badge. It has solid axles and locking differentials, making it ultra-capable as an off-road vehicle, too.
Toyota offered the 80 Series Land Cruiser in multiple diesel variants outside of the United States. The HDJ80 and HDJ81 (which was essentially a JDM HDJ80) models were highly desirable variants that both sported a stout 4.2 liter turbo diesel engine making 164 hp at 3,600 rpm and 266 lb⋅ft of torque at 1,400 rpm.
The value of these things continue to creep up, so it’s reasonable to expect that this truck is well-priced and that the purchase would be a worthwhile investment. For comparison purposes, Uncommon Motor Cars sold a modified 1995 example with higher mileage for $39,000 (+ buyer’s fee) last month on Bring a Trailer. This one’s going to a new home, and soon.

This Land Cruiser is epic. The headline is the 4.2 liter 12-valve turbo diesel inline-six cylinder motor, but this example also happens to be a rare triple locked Japanese domestic market rig. What’s more, it’s in incredible condition with a straight body and no rust, and a beautiful interior that even includes a camping stove and ice box!
In preparation for this sale, Uncommon Motor Cars had this rig’s interior steam cleaned, new windshield wiper blades installed, oil, brake and transmission fluid changed, antifreeze flushed and filled, and a new oil and air filter installed. In addition to that basic maintenance, the black paint was wet sanded and buffed, new Turbo stickers were affixed and window moldings replaced where necessary.
