Exterior Overview
Mitsubishi’s Delica has developed a cultlike following in the US, and as new production vans become increasingly expensive, complicated, and dull, it’s easy to see why these Japanese Classics are so beloved. Finished in a custom Cavalry Blue, our 1994 turns plenty of heads and is set off by an OEM optional front brushguard, factory rainguards, and refinished 16″ HiAce alloys. The paintwork shows well, save for a few expected dings and chips from daily use, and boasts just 41k verified and documented miles from new. With a frugal, fuel-sipping four banger mounted up front, this 4WD van would make for the ultimate adventuremobile that can pull double-duty as a daily driver. This standout van is customized, serviced, and turn-key ready
Interior Overview
The L400 features a fully revised interior with more safety features than its predecessor. The flat loading floor runs from the front of the van to the rear, so loading large cargo and passing items fore and aft are much less of an issue compared to the L300 that preceded it. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and a large off-road Field Monitor displays info about the outside condition to anyone riding up front. Below the OEM audio system is placed, which delivers some tunes to supplement your commute. Below, the climate control system can mix in cold air conditioning or piping hot heat, depending on your preference. If you prefer more natural ventilation, the power windows work like a charm, and a massive rear moonroof can power retract, and the electric front moonroof can tilt upward. Power locks and power mirrors also work as they should, making daily use more enjoyable. The light gray cloth seats are in good shape and lack any major rips, stains, or tears aside from some light soiling on the middle bench. The middle row can swivel 180 degrees to face rearward, which the kiddos always love! The matching material can be found in the door cards, which are in equally good nick. The headliner and carpets have withstood the past 25 years without sustaining major abuse, and as a whole, the cabin appears to have been well cared for.
Mechanical Overview
The Delica has a ton of great drivetrain options, but this 2.4L is beloved for its direct compatibility here in the states, making parts acquisition and servicing a snap! We’ve taken care of some beneficial preventative maintenance, and this van is turnkey and ready to rock. We replaced the timing belt, water pump, and all the accessory belts to drive your components reliably, and a new radiator and thermostat keep temperatures under control. The front main seal was also replaced, alongside a new valve cover gasket, and half moon seal, so the most recent oil and filter service keeps everything internal. We even dropped in a new 12V battery to ensure a reliable start every time. A new engine air filter and fuel filter button things up and with the maintenance performed, this four-banger gets up to highway speeds with ease and maintains them comfortably. An automatic gearbox sends the power to the rear wheels via Mitsubishi’s super select system, and 4WD can be engaged on the fly, without needing to come to a complete stop. If you really become entrenched in tough terrain, a center locking differential is on standby, and 4WD low is available to assist. The stock suspension suits this van surprisingly well, and the cabin stays comfortable and quiet even over larger road imperfections. The Delica’s shorter nose provides impressive maneuverability, and the power steering is easy to direct. The brakes stop on a dime if needed, thanks to new rear pads, and we wrapped those sleek refinished alloys in fresh Toyo rubber. Not only do the new all-terrains look mean, they’re primed to deliver tens of thousands of miles of reliable grip to come!
