- The Jeep Wagoneer SJ was one of the first luxury SUVs to hit the auto market in the U.S., designed by famed industrial designer Brooks Stevens and released for the 1963 model year. In 1984, Jeep renamed its upmarket variation of the Wagoneer to "Grand Wagoneer." The Jeep Grand Wagoneer SJ was offered until the discontinuation of the Wagoneer in 1991.Â
