1989 Lamborghini LM002

SOLD  $295,000 | CATS EXOTICS | LYNNWOOD, WA

RAMBO LAMBO ALERT! You don’t see Lamborghini LM002s everyday, and you most definitely don't see LM002s for sale. Cats Exotics out of Lynnwood, Washington is offering this nearly flawless 1989 example with 18,789 original miles for an asking price of $295,000.

Sure, it’s a pretty penny for this rugged luxury off-road vehicle, but it’s below the average LM002 sales price over the last 5 years according to classic.com, and about $180,000 less than a comparable LM002 sold for 7 months ago at a RM Sotheby’s auction. Oh, and it’s one of only 301 (!) ever produced.

If you have the means, I highly encourage you to jump on this opportunity to own one of the rarest fourbies in all the world.

ABOUT THE LM002

The LM002, affectionately known as the “Rambo Lambo,” is an off-road truck that was built by Lamborghini between 1986 and 1993. It was a pretty jarring departure for the Italian company that had been making a name for itself hand-building high performance sports cars and supercars–and before that, tractors too!

The LM002 is part of a series of vehicles referred to as Lamborghini Militaria, Lamborghini’s earnest but short-lived attempt at building a military vehicle line of business. These vehicles included:

  • Lamborghini Cheetah, prototype military light truck, a US-Italian joint venture
  • Lamborghini LM001, prototype off-road truck
  • Lamborghini LMA002, off-road truck concept vehicle
  • Lamborghini LM002
  • Lamborghini LM003, prototype military light truck
  • Lamborghini LM004, prototype ultra-luxury off-road truck

The LM002s angular design definitely fit with the characteristic Lamborghini design language of the era, and that wasn’t the only thing it shared with its more popular brother, the Countach. After testing a prototype with a V8 oriented in the rear, Lamborghini decided that resulted in a less-than-ideal handling vehicle. Their solution was to lift the 5.2 Liter quad-cam V12 from the Countach and bolt it to the front of this truck. The result was a rig with over 400 horsepower and the off-road chops needed to tackle most anything you could throw at it. Oh, and on top of it all, it was luxurious as hell for something produced in the late 80s.
