1990 Land Rover Defender 90 Soft Top

$165,000 | LEGACY OVERLAND | RIDGEFIELD, CT

Before you even ask, the color is called Satin Pangea Green. It’s definitely one of those colors that looks different every time you look at it depending on the sunlight and angle. It’s stunning set against the satin black accents and tawny leather, but it’s one of only about a zillion things that we love about this 1990 Land Rover Defender 90 soft top restoration that is being offered by Legacy Overland for $165,000.

This is no ordinary Defender 90, though, with thousands of hours having gone into this comprehensive restoration. The details are incredible, from the handcrafted vegan leather with black chevron stitched patterning on seats, doors and cubby box to the custom billet aluminum shifters. It even has a classic map light mounted to the dash on a telescoping arm. Such a cool touch in a sea of cool touches.

If this video doesn’t make you want this 90, consider asking the person next to you to check to be sure you still have a pulse.

The Model.

This is the second Legacy Overland build we’ve featured on Fourbie Exchange, following the phenomenal 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ40 we featured several weeks back. Instead of telling you about the Defender 90, which is one of the G.O.A.T. fourbies without question, we figured this would be a good time to dig into Legacy Overland a little bit.

More than many classic 4x4 restorers, you can really tell Legacy Overland appreciates the artistry of the automobile. It’s not just the trucks, which are each more beautiful than the last, but they celebrate their builds with top notch photoshoots and cinematic videos that are sure to turn anyone to an almost desperate suitor.

Legacy Overland focuses on restoring iconic 4x4s like Toyota Land Cruisers, Range Rover Classics, Land Rover Defenders, Mercedes G-Wagens, etc. But that doesn’t stop them from the occasional 2wd classic road car dalliance. 😉

They call themselves “craftsmen breathing a new and fresh life into our cars, honoring the past while just ever so slightly tweaking it along the way” and they wear that mantra in their logo with the “new vintage motors” tagline. It’s evidenced by a number of their exquisite builds currently documented on their website, each preserving the classic analog character of the vintage truck but adding a touch of modern technology and style.

Legacy Overland was founded by Robert Madeira in Greenwich, Connecticut, where one of his workshops is still located, alongside another in Portugal. You can tell a lot about Rob and his shop by checking out his blog. We spent some time over there as we wrote this, and came across this post that I think says a lot about Robert and the culture he’s built over at Legacy Overland: Is it ever too much? (Spoiler: It’s never too much for Legacy Overland).
