Introduced for the 2007 model year, the Toyota FJ Cruiser was one cool off-roader with Toyota's pedigree of capability and reliability. As a 183.9 in. mid-sized SUV, it slotted between the Toyota RAV4 and Highlander, and while it offered tons of practicality, it was designed to tackle to rigors of off-road lift with style.
Sadly, the FJ Cruiser ceased production for the 2014 model year for North American market, but production rages on for fringe markets across the globe. However, the FJ lives on in the hearts and minds of off-road enthusiasts and collectors alike - with surging values exceeding even this wild market.
So, finding a bargain like this 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser from A&M Auto Group with just 123k miles for $24,995 is a nice find.
TOYOTA FJ CRUISER: AN OFF-ROAD BEAST.
Toyota is, of course, a legendary off-road manufacturer - especially in the SUV game. With the Land Cruiser and 4Runner to its credit, Toyota had nothing left to prove. But as the Land Cruiser became bigger and more luxurious to accommodate the North American market, the FJ Cruiser filled a gap by pairing classic Toyota reliability with FJ40-inspired styling to create a smaller, more accessible off-roader that looked and acted the part.
The FJ Cruiser was first teased at the 2003 North American International Auto Show, but buyers would have to wait until 2007 to take delivery. As a fourbie, it offered 9.6 in. of ground clearance, 34° approach angle, 30° departure angle, could take on up to 27.5 in. of water, and tow up to 5,000 lbs. Wow.
Powering the earlier examples of the FJ Cruiser (2007-2009 model years), like this one, was a 4.0L 1GR-FE V6 with Single variable valve timing (VVT-i), but later (2010) Dual VVT-i, which boosted output. Power rose again in 2011+.
In addition to being an off-road ready machine straight from the factory, the classic styling was a great throwback in a time when retro-inspired designs were taking the market by storm, like the Ford Mustang, Ford Thunderbird, Chevrolet SSR, Mini Cooper, and so forth. But the FJ Cruiser was the baddest of the bunch, in our opinion. And with 100k+ units sold in 2006 and 2007, the market seemed to think so, too, at least for a two-door SUV built for the trails.
The Specs.
We love the FJ Cruiser. Plain and simple. And this example is no exception. While there are many modified and upgraded examples to be found, this one is largely original and ready for its next owner to really craft it to their preference - whether that includes aftermarket support, or stewarding it for the next million miles.
