2020 RAM POWER WAGON ADVENTURE TRUCK
This is a true turnkey adventure truck—fully sorted and ready to head anywhere, from remote backcountry routes to long-distance expeditions. It needs nothing and has been built to operate independently for extended trips, wherever the road (or lack of one) leads.

I bring more than 33 years of off-roading and fabrication experience to this build. If you’re new to the overland or adventure-truck world and want to step into a well-above-average platform, I’m happy to answer questions. There is a lot of technical jargon involved in builds like this, and it can be overwhelming if you’re not deeply immersed.

BUILD PHILOSOPHY
I purchased this Power Wagon brand new with the goal of creating a compact, highly capable adventure truck—one that could operate in truly remote areas for as long as food, water, and fuel allow. The idea was simple: stay out indefinitely, or until it’s time to clean up, check into a nice hotel, and park in a standard parking spot.

Reliability and self-sufficiency were the top priorities. The truck is designed to carry everything needed for week-long (or longer) trips without resupply—no fuel jugs, no water cans. This setup has proven itself on trips ranging from Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean to desert weekends closer to home.

PLATFORM & CAPABILITY
The Power Wagon platform was chosen for its 2500-series heavy-duty axles and drivetrain, exceptional ride comfort, and strong gas-powered performance—without the added weight, complexity, or diesel smell. This truck was factory-optioned with nearly every available feature, including:
  • Sunroof
  • 12-inch LCD screen
  • Heated and cooled front seats
  • Dual alternators
  • Front and rear electronic lockers
EXTENDED RANGE & FUEL SYSTEM
Total fuel capacity is 61 gallons, providing a real-world range of approximately 650–800 miles.
  • 31-gallon factory fuel tank
  • 30-gallon transfer-on-the-fly spare tank
  • Spare tank protected by a custom 5/16" thick skid plate
  • Factory-style fuel door added to the bedside for easy refueling
DRIVETRAIN & AEV UPGRADES
With fewer than 100 miles on the odometer, the truck was sent directly to American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) for their factory-authorized Prospector XL package. Upgrades installed prior to shipment included:
  • 5.13 gearing
  • RCV axles
  • Thuren axle truss
  • Dynatrac heavy-duty ball joints
This was done intentionally to prioritize long-term reliability from day one.

TIRES, ACCESS & EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Brand-new 41.5" Interco IROC radial tires with full-size spare
  • Power-folding steps protected by rock sliders for easy entry
  • ARB Intensity V2 9" LED spot and flood lights on the bumper
  • Additional Baja Designs LED lighting integrated into the rear bumper
ELECTRICAL & SOLAR SYSTEM
The truck features a robust, redundant electrical system designed for extended off-grid use:
  • 300Ah Battle Born 12V lithium smart batteries
  • 360 watts of Merlin solar
  • 3,000-watt inverter
We’ve parked for up to five days at a time in remote areas of Death Valley, the Sonoran Desert, and the Mojave—without starting the truck or seeing another person or vehicle.

CARGO SYSTEM & ROOF ACCESS
To access the rooftop tent, a custom-built 2,200-pound-capacity cargo slide extends outward, allowing the stairs to deploy—no ladders required. Simply walk up the steps, use the electric fridge-lowering platform or Zarges boxes as steps, and set up camp in minutes.

All Zarges aluminum storage boxes are included and are keyed into fixed positions on the cargo slide as part of an integrated system.

ROOFTOP TENT & CANOPY
The Camp King Australian rooftop tent is a hard-shell aluminum design with heavy-duty canvas that blocks sun for daytime sleeping. Features include:
  • 3" memory foam mattress
  • Hardwired power ports (phones and devices)
  • LED color-changing ambient lighting
  • Two 12V electric blankets
I’m 6’3”, 220 lbs, and fit comfortably. The tent has handled 40+ mph wind gusts in Death Valley without issue.

The RLD South African canopy includes custom stainless steel cabinets, powder-coated and felt-lined, along with:
  • Full-size 41.5" spare tire storage
  • Gear boxes
  • Integrated 4' table
  • A custom ½" thick 4041 aluminum adapter plate, water-jet cut from a full sheet, mounts the RTT and awning for maximum durability.
AWNING
  • RLD 270-degree awning mounted with ½" thick aluminum brackets
  • Full room enclosure with zippered door
  • Heavyweight white canvas for light diffusion
REFRIGERATIO & WATER
Refrigeration includes two Engel MT-45 fridge/freezers—one fridge, one freezer (or dual fridges). Ice for cocktails in 100-degree desert heat is not a problem. The primary fridge lowers electronically by 18 inches for easy access. Water capacity includes:
  • Two Titan 15-gallon saddle tanks
  • Two independent on-demand pumps with hose fittings
  • Spare pump with 12V extension and filter for drawing from lakes or rivers
The common theme throughout the build: redundancy. Two of everything—because when one fails, you keep going.

AIR & STORAGE
  • Two ARB twin air compressors
  • 3-gallon air tank
  • Front and rear quick disconnects
  • Tires inflate from 15 PSI to 50 PSI in roughly one minute
Rear storage is handled by a Goose Gear rear deck with dual 12" drawers. Rear seats and seatbelts are included if desired.
