Originally conceived by sport truck enthusiast John Thompson of The Woodland, Texas, this 1992 Chevy OBS showcased everything in the custom build playbook from the mid/late 90’s era. John bought the truck new in 1992 and went to work over the next 3 years having the truck built. A well known truck from the 1990’s scene many remember this Chevy from Texas Heat Wave, Houston Autorama and other I.S.C.A events. In 1995, the truck was featured in “Truckin’”magazine and in 1997, it made the cover of Sport Truck.

Paint and body was done by Best Body and Paint in Houston in PPG Teal Green and after that was complete, Maxwell Designs did a stunning job with all of the graphics which flow seamlessly throughout the truck through the door jams, around the back of the cab, through the wheel wells, inside the engine compartment, across the intake, and under the hood. Body mods include a molded tailgate, filled and molded steel roll pan, shaved door handles, filled stake pockets and filled cab seams. The frame was boxed and smoothed from front to back and sports more of that PPG Teal Green.

The interior was completed by Trim Tech of Houston who completely reconfigured the dash and made custom panels throughout the truck including the wild looking bed insert.

The engine donor was a wrecked 1993 Chevy Corvette LT-1 that was then built with Keith Black Pistons, and a Comp Cams cam and lifter. John had the original cylinder heads ported and polished sitting up top is a TPI set up, originally from Street and Performance. To really show things off, the original block had its castings smoothed and painted to match the interior of the truck. Outback is the entire independent suspension from the 1993 Vette which was polished and detailed to match the rest of the build. Bolt on goodies include engraved valve covers, chrome GM front cover, and billet aluminum engine pulleys.

After years off the show circuit, the ‘92 was skillfully brought back up to snuff by Noel P. who documented the process on his Instagram page. Kudos to him for keeping the dream alive.
