The 70 series Land Cruisers are without a doubt having their day in the sun, and we’re here for it. Check out this absolutely gorgeous 4 door 1992 Land Cruiser Prado LJ78 for sale by the team at Revhard Motors in Denver, Colorado for $29,900. Despite its boxy good looks, it’s real talent is taming the trails utilizing a stout 2.4 liter 4 cylinder turbodiesel motor that produces 163 ft·lb of torque at just 2,400 RPM, a locking rear diff and electronic locking front hubs, a lift kit and Pro Comp shocks, and knobby 33” tires.
The Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series: An Offroad Delight.
The Toyota Land Cruiser 70 series models are so damn cool. While not the chronological successor, the 70 series is actually the successor of the beloved and iconic 40 series Land Cruiser that was produced for an incredible 25 years, but started to get a bit dated later in its production run.
Built starting in 1984, the 70 series took a lot of what made the 40 series iconic, but made it considerably more modern. It had the same basic architecture as the 40 series: A ladder frame chassis with live axles and leaf springs, a seriously reliable engine with some grunt up front, and an all-steel body offered in a variety of lengths to suit different uses.
The new body was quite clearly inspired by the 40, but it was more modern with sharper angles and cleaner lines. It just fit with the way automotive design was headed–but still preserved the spartan simplicity that made it a Toyota Land Cruiser . The interior was completely updated too, and despite being built for off-road ability, it gave much more consideration to the comfort of the driver and passengers. And, of course, it brought with it modern safety measures that made for a safer ride.
“Sounds cool, Fourbie Exchange, but is $29,900 a fair price?” Well, as we do, we have some data for you to review. Below is the 5-year view on sales of 70 series rigs, which shows a rolling average of $25,436. Of course, examples have sold for as high as $75,900 and the actual value depends on a ton of factors, not the least of which are the condition and specs. What we often like to do is take a look at comparable examples at this example’s price point. We encourage you to poke around in that data below, but we think this is listed at a pretty fair price.
The Condition & Specs.
This LJ78 has been driven approximately 150,000 miles in its 30 years. If you’re doing the math, that’s a relatively low 5,000 miles per year on average, and despite showing some of those signs of use, it’s still in really fine condition. The Revhard-provided pictures show an exterior largely free of flaws, and an underside that shows little to no signs of even surface rust. The interior is also in relatively good shape with some signs of wear in the center console, and seats in the first two rows have been recovered in black leather. The 3rd row of seats appear to be in good condition.
