About the Dodge Durango

Following its first forray into the full-size SUV game with the Ramcharger from 1974 to 1993, Dodge took a brief hiatus in the mid-90s before launching the all-new Durango for the 1998 model year. While the Ramcharger went head-to-head against the likes of the Ford Bronco, International Harverster Scout, Jeep CJ-7, and Chevrolet K5 Blazer, the Durango was retooled to compete a new class of family-oriented SUVs like the Ford Explorer, Jeep Cherokee, and Chevrolet Tahoe.

While its competitors focused on utility, the Durango put the "Sport" back into "Sport Utility Vehicle" thanks to powerful Magnum engine options, and borderline insane limited edition trims like the supercharged Shelby S.P. 360 in 1999 and 2000, the R/T from 2000 to 2003, and the SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat trims in the newest generation of Durango SUVs.

In the early 00's, you couldn't leave the house without seeing at least one Durango on the streets. It seemed like every stop sign, every driveway, and every highway had at least one. With its menacing façade, it grabbed attention wherever it went and became a highly-desired SUV. After six years in service, the 1st Generation Durango gave way to the 2nd Generation (internal code HB) like the one you see here, which was offered from the 2004 to 2009 model years. The new Durango offered a refreshed exterior along with improved powertrain, towing, safety, technology, and drive-quality.
