James Bond has driven some seriously cool cars in his day: the legendary Aston Martin DB5, the underwater Lotus Esprit S1, Toyota 2000GT Roadster, and so many more. But one ride he didn’t get his hands on was a Land Rover Defender. Given his history of not necessarily driving between the lines or keeping his hands on ten-and-two, it’s a little surprising that he didn’t operate a Defender – it would certainly have been able to withstand the abuse. Plus, there’s plenty of room for gadgetry.
In the latest Bond flick, No Time to Die, we saw the Land Rover Defender 110 make an appearance – albeit at the hands of baddies. The blacked-out Defenders pursue Bond with ease across the highlands, through a river, and into the woods. Oh my. Surprise surprise: Bond manages to out-maneuver them, but judging by this behind-the-scenes clip, there’s certainly more capability to those Defenders in real life.
To commemorate the theatrical appearance, Land Rover released a Defender V8 Bond Edition inspired by No Time to Die. The special edition may be added to a Defender 110 or Defender 90 body design, but a remarkably low 300 total examples worldwide have been produced (approximately 65 in the U.S.) and were available for order in September 2021 with an MSRP of $115,950.
Luckily, the good folks at King of Cars & Trucks in New Jersey have their hands on 1 of the 300, and are offering it up for sale for $164,900 – a fair ask considering other examples .
About the 2022 Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Bond Edition.
The 2022 Bond Edition builds upon the Defender’s new for ’22 top-of-the-line trim level: the Defender V8. The V8 now sits atop the X, HSE, SE, and S.
The V8 trim a potent package that packs a supercharged 5.0L V8 with 518 horsepower and 461 lb.-ft of torque good for sprinting from 0-60 in 5.1 seconds. That V8 is mated to a 8-speed automatic transmission with AWD and twin-speed transfer box. Additionally, the V8 Defender includes active stability control, brake-based torque vectoring, hill descent control, air suspension, and electronic rear differential.
We also really like Dynamic Mode: a drive mode unique to the V8 within the Defender’s Terrain Response system that tweaks damper stiffness, throttle response, and gear duration to provide better response and handling.
It’s well-equipped enough to make Bond proud whether you choose to pound the pavement or to mash through the marsh.
On top of the inherent features and functionality, the Bond Edition features the Extended Black Exterior Pack, which includes the Santorini Black exterior plus 22 in. Gloss Black five-spoke wheels wrapped in Continental CrossContact tires – including the rear-mounted spare. The only exclusions to the all-black aesthetic are the contrasting Xenon Blue front brake calipers, chrome exhaust tips, and “Defender 007” badge on the back.
Additional Bond Edition touches include 007 puddle lamp, illuminated treadplates, and exclusive animation on the 11.4 in. Pivi Pro touchscreen infotainment system. Plus, you can keep your martini glass chilled in via the center console refrigerator.
Defender 110 V8 Bond Edition Specifications.
The 2022 Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Bond Edition is a complete and utter king on the road and off that makes little concession by way of performance or comfort. Yes, this specific trim and model is better equipped for dominating the road, but don’t sleep on it on the trails, either.
If you see a couple of these pulling up behind you, you’ll need some crafty driver skills to get out of trouble.
