About the Mercedes-Benz W463.

The Mercedes-Benz W463 is the second generation of the G-Class SUV, offered for the first time in 1992 after the conclusion of the W460. While the W460 was more of a purpose-built for professional applications, the W463 evolved to appeal to the everyday consumer, exemplifying the luxury and comfort expected of a Mercedes-Benz and putting it squarely against the Range Rover.

In addition to the W463, the W461 followed the W460 as the more utilitarian variation.

Both the W463 and W461 employed newer, more powerful series of motors relative to the W460. But while the W461 changed very little on the inside and outside, the W463 underwent a significant transformation. The sharp, functional exterior lines were smoothed out, including the grille and bumpers. Running boards were also installed as a standard feature. The W463 offered features like ABS, full-time 4-wheel drive, and electronically locking differentials. Inside, the Mercedes-Benz W463 was completely reconfigured with wood trim, leather upholstery, and smarter feature accessibility.

The W463 was offered in a ton of variations. A ton. Two door, three door, four door, and five door options were made available. The long list of G-Class badges include the 230GE/G230, 300GE/G300, 300GD/G300D, 350GD T/G350 Turbodiesel, G350 CDI, 500GE, G270 CDI, G320, G400 CDI, G500, G550, G55 AMG, G63 AMG, G65 AMG, G63 AMG 6x6, G500/G550 4x4², and G650 Landaulet.

While the Mercedes-Benz G-Class wasn't made available in the U.S. until 2002, a New Mexico-based firm called Europa International, Inc. imported the beasts, converted them to U.S. spec, and sold to a high-end clientele.

How Much Is A Mercedes-Benz W463 G500, Anyway?

Rocking a Mercedes-Benz W463 G-Class will set you back $102,356, per 5-year rolling average data compiled by Classic.com.

But, keep in mind that this includes the full suite of W463 G-Class variants, all the way up through the top-of the-line G63 AMG. And yes, that includes the completely ludicrous 6x6 G63 AMG that commands upwards of $1.2M.

Next to that, the $59,900 asking price of this particular G500 seems like a steal! (You might have better luck with that line working on your spouse than I did with mine). The average sales price for Mercedes-Benz a W463 G500 is $61,463, and while that number is slightly skewed by the (very few) higher-end Cabriolet variations routinely fetching prices north of $300,000, you'd be hard-pressed to find an example as low-mileage and properly modified as this.
