The 80 Series Land Cruiser has earned its reputation as one of Toyota’s most capable and durable 4x4 platforms, but this 1996 FJ80 has been built well beyond factory specification. Offered by a private seller in Las Vegas, Nevada, this is a purpose-built trail and overland rig with 5.29 gearing, ARB air lockers front and rear, a part-time 4WD conversion, 39-inch BFGoodrich KM3s on true beadlocks, long-travel suspension, RCV axles, armor, extended-range fuel capacity, and a long list of supporting mechanical upgrades.

The current owner has had the Land Cruiser for approximately five years and reports that the modifications have fewer than 5,000 miles of use. More importantly, this isn't an untested build: the seller has taken it through the Rubicon Trail, including the RTF loop, and reports completing the trip without mechanical issues or breakdowns.
  • Triple-Locked & Re-Geared: This FJ80 is equipped with ARB air lockers front and rear along with a locking center differential, while Nitro 5.29 gearing helps compensate for the substantially larger tires. The transfer case has been rebuilt with 10/25 gearing and converted to part-time four-wheel drive with locking front hubs. The seller reports that the combination was specifically chosen to retain stock-like road manners while providing considerably more torque both on the trail and during highway climbs. 
  • Built Drivetrain: The automatic transmission has been rebuilt and fitted with a Nomad valve body, while the front and rear driveline uses RCV Ultimate 30-spline 300M axle sets and replacement driveshafts. A dedicated transmission cooler with electric fan helps manage temperatures. The 4.5-liter 1FZ-FE inline-six has also received substantial recent work, including a rebuilt cylinder head with fewer than 5,000 miles, along with a new radiator, water pump, thermostat, cooling hoses, ignition components, alternator, starter, fuel pump, drive belts, and power-steering hoses. 
  • Serious Suspension & Trail Hardware: Up front is a 4 Wheels Underground three-link suspension system paired with a Front Range high-steer setup, while the rear uses a five-inch lift with BP-51 components sourced through Slee Offroad and Dobinsons heavy-duty trailing arms. The Land Cruiser rides on new 39x13.50R17 BFGoodrich KM3 tires mounted to 17x8.5-inch TR HD17 true beadlock wheels. Trail-Gear Rock Defense bumpers, welded Rocky Road Outfitters Rock Crusher sliders, extensive skid plating, and a Warn ZEON 10-S winch with synthetic line and Factor 55 thimble round out the protection and recovery equipment. 
  • 38-Gallon Tank & Onboard Air: A 38-gallon Long Range America main fuel tank extends the FJ80’s range for backcountry travel, while an ARB CKMTA12 twin compressor supplies onboard air for tire inflation, air tools, the air horn, and other pneumatic accessories. A separate ARB compressor operates the lockers, and a four-way tire inflation system allows all four tires to be aired up or down together. A dual-battery system and Switch-Pros SP9100 provide electrical support and centralized control for the truck's accessories. 
  • Minimalist Overland Setup: Rather than permanently filling the interior with a complete camper build, this FJ80 has been kept relatively simple and adaptable. Equipment includes YodaTEQ gullwing rear windows, tailgate storage, a heavy-duty tilt fridge slide, rear-view camera, Yaesu HAM radio, Alu-Cab 270-degree Shadow Awning with LED lighting, and a new Overland Vehicle Systems Nomadic shower/privacy awning. The factory rear seats remain in place, and the seller notes that the truck is ready for additions such as refrigeration or a rooftop tent depending on its next owner's needs. 
There are modified 80 Series Land Cruisers, and then there are builds where the drivetrain, gearing, suspension, axles, cooling, armor, recovery equipment, fuel capacity, and supporting systems have all been addressed as a package. This one falls firmly into the latter category. The 5.29 gearing and 39-inch tires are supported by RCV 30-spline axles, rebuilt transmission and transfer case, high-steer and three-link front suspension, BP-51 rear suspension, heavy-duty trailing arms, upgraded cooling, and substantial underbody protection. At the same time, the 38-gallon tank, dual batteries, onboard air, gullwing windows, awnings, and storage additions give it a useful foundation for longer overland trips without committing the next owner to somebody else's full interior layout.

The seller describes the Land Cruiser as mechanically sound with only minor cosmetic flaws and says all modifications have fewer than 5,000 miles.
