The Legendary Jeep CJ-5.

The Jeep CJ-5 first debuted in 1964 although its production can actually be traced back to the military as early as 1954. When it debuted, it represented the latest in the line of CJ series vehicles that dated back to 1944 with the CJ-1 and included its predecessor, the CJ-3B.

The CJ5 was a simple two-door SUV that underwent several changes during its run. For example, some of the first models utilized a beefy V6 engine, although a smaller 4-cylinder engine was also available if you didn’t crave that kind of power. Then in 1972, the CJ-5 experienced a drastic change, when American Motors Corporation opted to outfit it with a more powerful 5-liter V8. In order to make room for this bigger engine, the Jeep CJ-5 also experienced a widening of the wheelbase, resulting in a much broader stance.

The Jeep CJ-5 steadily advanced with the constant march of automotive technology, but eventually gave way to the iconic CJ-7 in 1983.
