1965 Chevrolet K10 Suburban

SOLD  $65,000 | MERRITT MOTORS | KANNAPOLIS, NC

If I had a spare $65,000 laying around I’d be driving to Merritt Motors in Kannapolis, North Carolina to buy this truck instead of writing this. Unfortunately I don’t, so let me tell you all about this thing in hopes that maybe one of you can give it a new home. This restored 1965 Chevrolet K10 Suburban with only 25,000 miles on it boasts a rebuilt 283 cubic inch V8, a new interior and an eye-popping coat of Indian Turquoise paint and a color-coordinated Braden PTO winch.

The Model.

We’ve written about Chevy Suburbans before, but never a 5th generation Suburban, and it’s about time. This of course is the 5th of 12 total Suburban generations so far, as it continues its run as the longest continuously used nameplate in history. It’s an icon, and for good reason.

The 5th generation got its start with the 1960 model year, which took its styling cues from a lot of the late 50s Chevy lineup, especially with its large ovular ports above the grille at the end of the hood. Its cab had a wrap-around windshield, and it came with options for tailgate and panel door rear openings, this one coming with rear panel doors, which open to a rear cargo area capable of carrying 1,150 pounds of cargo. By 1965 when this Suburban was produced, Chevy had ditched the characteristic ports and the wrap-around windshield for a more streamlined looking front-end and flattened front glass.

It’s really hard to find a 55+ year old Suburban that’s in decent shape, and finding one with this low mileage in this good condition is nearly impossible. Add that this Suburban was 4wd and one of only 433 ever built in this configuration and you’ve got yourself a damn unicorn fourbie.

The Specs.

This K10 Suburban has been restored back to stock, which I think is an amazing choice, because this truck is pretty perfect. The only aftermarket add-on is true off-road, with the addition of a fully-functional Braden PTO winch mounted to the front bumper.
