cleanThe first-generation GMT800 Silverado, which ran from 1999 through 2006, represented a major leap forward for Chevrolet's full-size truck lineup. When it arrived for the 1999 model year, the Silverado name replaced the long-running C/K designation that had been in use since 1960. The platform was stiffer, the interior significantly more refined, and the engine lineup included an all-new family of Vortec V8s that proved to be some of the most durable and tuneable truck engines GM ever produced. By 2000, the Silverado had already earned Motor Trend Truck of the Year honors for the platform's debut year, and sales confirmed what buyers were figuring out quickly — this was a well-engineered truck that could work hard and still be comfortable on the road.
This particular 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS is a two-wheel-drive regular cab long bed — a configuration that is increasingly hard to find in honest, unmodified condition. The regular cab long bed layout was the workhorse choice for buyers who needed maximum bed length without the weight and complexity of an extended or crew cab. The long bed on the 2000 Silverado 1500 measures approximately eight feet, making it the right tool for anyone who regularly hauls full sheets of plywood, long lumber, or needs serious cargo capacity. The two-door regular cab body is also a practical advantage for anyone who uses the truck as a work vehicle or tow rig rather than a family hauler.
The VIN confirms this is a 2000 model year, assembled in Flint, Michigan — one of GM's primary full-size truck plants. The "E" position in the VIN confirms the Vortec 5.3L V8 engine, and the "4" in the check digit position decodes correctly. This is an honest two-wheel-drive truck, which keeps weight down and mechanicals simple.
At over two decades old, the combination of a two-wheel-drive regular cab long bed with the 5.3 V8 in presentable condition is becoming a legitimate collector configuration — not because of rarity in the traditional sense, but because so many of these trucks were used hard and long since disappeared from the road.

MechanicalThe heart of this 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS is the Vortec 5.3L V8, known internally at GM as the LM7. This engine was part of GM's Gen III small-block family, which shared its fundamental architecture with the LS1 used in the Corvette and Camaro SS of the same era. The LM7 was rated at 270 horsepower and 315 lb-ft of torque in 2000, making it the strongest engine option in the half-ton Silverado lineup at that time. It features a cast-iron block, aluminum cylinder heads, sequential fuel injection, and a relatively simple valvetrain layout that has proven extremely forgiving over high mileage. These engines routinely reach 200,000 miles and beyond with basic maintenance, and the aftermarket support for them is enormous.
Power is routed through a 4L60-E four-speed automatic transmission, which was GM's standard rear-wheel-drive automatic of the era. It is a well-understood unit with a long service history. The two-wheel-drive setup means there is no transfer case to maintain, and the rear axle is a conventional solid unit with leaf spring suspension — a proven, simple arrangement well-suited to towing and hauling.
This truck has been fitted with a cold air intake, which is a common and straightforward modification. The intake replaces the factory airbox with a less-restrictive design intended to pull cooler, denser air into the engine. It does not alter the drivetrain or affect reliability, and it adds a small amount of throttle response. The rest of the drivetrain appears to be stock.
The undersides of this truck tell an important story. The underbody photos show solid frame rails, intact suspension components, and no evidence of significant rust or structural repair. For a 25-year-old truck, that condition is meaningful. The front suspension uses a double-wishbone independent setup with torsion bars on the two-wheel-drive configuration, and the rear runs a conventional multi-leaf spring arrangement. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums, with four-wheel ABS as a factory feature on this trim level. The spare tire is mounted in the factory underbody location beneath the bed, and it appears to still be in place.
InteriorThe interior of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS is finished in tan cloth throughout. The bench seat with center fold-down armrest is the correct configuration for a regular cab LS — it accommodates three passengers across the front and gives the driver a convenient armrest during highway driving. The cloth material shows the typical wear you would expect from a truck of this age, but the photos show the seat surface holding its structure without tears or collapsed foam, and the door panels are intact with no visible cracking or separation.
The dashboard layout on the GMT800 generation was widely praised when new for its truck-first functionality. The instrument cluster on this LS features a full set of gauges including a tachometer, speedometer, fuel, oil pressure, volts, and coolant temperature. The tachometer was not standard on base-level trims, making it an LS-specific feature worth noting. The message center display is visible to the left of the tachometer and functions as a basic driver information system. The center stack houses the factory AM/FM CD player above a simple rotary HVAC control panel. The controls are large, logically arranged, and easy to operate with work gloves on — a deliberate design choice Chevrolet made for this platform.
Additional interior features include power windows, power door locks, air conditioning, a sliding rear window for cab ventilation, and dual front airbags. The floor mats visible in the photos are aftermarket rubber units, which have protected the carpet underneath. The overall interior presents as a well-kept, functional truck cabin that has been used but not abused.
ExteriorThe 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS wears a white exterior, which was among the most popular colors ordered on the GMT800 platform — partly for its heat-reflective qualities in warm climates and partly because it hides the inevitable door dings and road dust better than darker colors in daily use. The paint presents well in the photos, with no obvious signs of repainting, heavy oxidation, or collision repair visible on the major body panels.
The LS trim on the 2000 Silverado 1500 came with factory alloy wheels as standard equipment, distinguishing it from the base Work Truck trim's steel wheels. This truck retains its factory alloys, fitted with Goodyear Wrangler tires — a well-regarded all-season truck tire that is appropriate for highway use and light off-road applications. The chrome fender flares, chrome side mirrors, and chrome rear bumper are all consistent with the LS appearance package. The chrome rear bumper also serves a practical function, as it provides a solid step platform for loading the bed.
The bed liner is in place and protects the truck bed floor and lower sidewalls from cargo damage. The trailer hitch is mounted beneath the chrome rear bumper, and the receiver is visible in the underbody photos. The long bed provides approximately eight feet of cargo space, which is enough for a standard sheet of drywall or plywood with the tailgate up, or considerably longer materials with the tailgate folded down.
The body gaps appear consistent, the door operation looks correct from the photos, and there are no visible signs of panel replacement or filler work on the major surfaces. The sliding rear window is present and functional, which adds ventilation on warm days and is often the first item to go missing or leak on older GMT800 trucks.
ConclusionThe 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Regular Cab Long Bed is a straightforward truck from an era when GM's full-size pickup was at its most capable and most competent. The Vortec 5.3L V8 is one of the most proven engines ever fitted to a half-ton truck, the platform is thoroughly understood by every independent shop in the country, and the regular cab long bed configuration gives the buyer maximum utility in the smallest possible footprint. This is the truck configuration that built job sites, pulled boats, and kept ranches running — and examples in this condition, with solid floors and an intact underbody, are getting harder to find as the years go on.
