This 2006 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is a black-on-black, lifted trail build powered by a stroked 4.7L (288 cubic inch) inline six. 2006 was the final model year of the TJ generation, and this one keeps the AMC-derived 4.0L architecture that Wrangler owners know well, with displacement and supporting hardware taken well beyond the factory setup. The engine build is reported to be two years old with roughly 12,000 miles on it, and the odometer is exempt.
The engine starts with a 4.0L block (327 and 328 castings) bored .040 to .060 over and fitted with a SCAT stroker crankshaft, forged ICON pistons, Hastings piston rings, Enginetech main and rod bearings, a Melling oil pump, and a Fel-Pro performance gasket kit. The rotating assembly is balanced, the camshaft is OEM-spec, and compression is 9.3:1. Output is listed at 230 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, a typical figure for this combination and a clear step up from the factory 4.0L's 190 horsepower. Airflow is handled by a Newcomer Racing 70mm wide-mouth throttle body and a ported and matched stock-casting intake manifold. A Mishimoto aluminum radiator (about 1.5 years old, with new hoses) manages cooling, and transmission and steering coolers add capacity for hard trail use. Power goes through an automatic transmission.
The chassis is set up for serious off-road work. A Clayton long arm lift kit raises the Jeep to clear 36-inch Super Swamper tires, mounted on 15-inch ION alloy wheels with a full-size spare. As a Rubicon, it began life with Dana 44 axles and factory locking differentials, and an anti-rock sway bar adds to the traction hardware. Four-wheel disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors are backed by a new brake booster and reservoir. Underbody and fuel tank skid plates protect the vulnerable parts, and the frame and underbody have been coated with Noxudol rust inhibitor. A custom front stinger bumper and custom rear bumper frame the body, with a Superwinch EPi9.0 10,000 lb winch with nylon cord up front and a vented hood for added airflow.
Inside and out, the Jeep wears a black soft top, upgraded LED headlights and tail lights, and an LED third brake light mounted in the spare tire. A Bluetooth stereo with a subwoofer and new Rough Country neoprene seat covers round out the cabin. This is a well-equipped, mechanically focused Rubicon for someone who wants real trail capability and more torque than the stock six ever offered.
