An Elegant 1960 Toyota Land Cruiser? Meet the FJ28.
The FJ28, produced from 1955 to 1960, is part of Toyota’s Land Cruiser 20 Series–the genesis of the venerated “Land Cruiser” model name, as well as the coveted Type-F engine. This 1960 FJ28 is a long-wheelbase version in a 4-door wagon configuration that was built by Gifu Auto Body Industries for Toyota, as evidenced by the original emblem in the rear door.
FJ28s are raaaaaare, to say the least. According to House of Cruisers, there are only two more 4-door examples in the United States, with one living at the Land Cruiser Museum, and the other one sold in 2020 as a survivor at Barrett-Jackson. If you read up on our Features you know that we love Classic.com data. We checked up on Toyota 20-Series Land Cruisers as we were writing this up and found that there have only been 13 sold at auction in the last 5 years as you can see below, and only two (2!) of those were FJ28s. The asking price here is higher than those documented as sold at auction, but….just look at this thing. In today’s market, this feels like a fair asking price for a truck that could take top honors at most car and truck shows.
