The Land Cruiser has been produced for around 70 years. The model has plenty of staying power as they’re reliable, capable, and inexpensive to maintain. This 1999 J100 also adds in a healthy helping of luxury, with its spacious, well appointed cabin and cushy ride. Finished in a striking Black (202) this truck is set off by 18×9 aftermarket alloys, a stylish rear spoiler, OEM rainguards, a Lexus badge upgrade and a Ganador quad exhaust. This Toyota looks terrific, and aside from a bumper replacement in Japan and few light dings, chips and scuffs this freshly serviced 4×4 is in fine shape. Offered with a mere 94k verified and documented miles on the ticker, the powerful V8 is barely broken in. Stylish, affordable, and trustworthy, this Japanese Classic would make for an ideal daily driver or cool campsite cruiser. With a seven decades long reputation that proceeds it, this Cygnus is a safe bet whether you’re pounding the pavement or terrorizing some trails!

The cabin is expansive and filled with some decent factory options and aftermarket upgrades. Rarely found in Japan, this Landy is equipped with a third row and real leather. The cowhides are in good nick overall, and lack any major imperfections. Cabin entry is seamless thanks to a keyless system that operates at the press of a button. The driver benefits from an electric tilt and telescoping wheel and power adjustable seat to find the ideal driving position. Power windows, locks, and power-folding mirrors all function in typical Toyota fashion making daily use more enjoyable. For those who may be safety conscious, dual SRS airbags are standard. The dashboard is in good nick and lacks any cracking or fading, too. The center stack frames a touchscreen that includes controls for the digital dual zone climate system and OEM audio. A/C and heat are available on demand, which is perfect for those living in seasonal climates. The headliner is in good nick, as are the door cards that are tidy and soft to the touch. That’s not to say the cabin is perfect as we wanted to note the sunroof is slow to open and close so we advise leaving it fixed into place. Also the aftermarket deck affixed atop the headliner is inoperable. Still, at 25 years old the cabin is in remarkably good shape and was clearly cared for in a prior life.

Just like our stateside Cruisers, this Cygnus is powered by the legendary 2UZ-FE. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 4.7 whirrs to life with the twist of the key. A new engine air filter aids fuel economy and lets the V8 breathe freely. One of our trained techs rehabbed the 2UZ with a set of new valve cover gaskets and a new oil pan seal. To maintain proper thermal efficiency a coolant flush was performed and a new thermostat was added for good measure. It feels healthy as a horse and is linked to a stout automatic gearbox. The transmission shifts properly and benefits from a resealed pan. The transmission shifts as it should and the J100 accelerates up to to highway speeds without breaking a sweat. A Full-Time 4WD systems underpins this platform and an optional center locker and low range are ideal for sand, snow and mud! To keep the power going to the ground a new front axle seal was installed. ABS brakes are standard and this heavyweight slows down promptly when called upon thanks to new front and rear brake rotors and pads. The adjustable height suspension delivers a premium feel and handles small and large potholes alike with confidence. An aftermarket height controller is installed, which will surely impress a few folks at the local cars and coffee. The power steering is light and makes this rig easy to maneuver around the tight confines of the city. We rebuilt the rack completely to ensure the fluid level stays topped up. It tracks straight as an arrow thanks to a fresh alignment and grip is handled by four new 33″ Falken tires mounted and balanced at each corner. The new rubber looks killer, quells road noise, and most importantly will last for tens for thousands of miles to come.
