1968 GMC 1500 Custom: A 2nd Gen C/K Pickup

The 1968 GMC 1500 is part of the 2nd generation of General Motors’ C/K line of trucks. Mechanically similar to the Chevy C/K line, the GM C/K line represented a more premium truck, with higher end options and more luxurious appointments. GMC launched the 2nd generation, or “Action Line” C/K for the 1967 model year, and did so in light, medium and heavy-duty variants. In this example, the 1500 denotes that this is a 1/2 ton truck.

In terms of engines, a wide range of inline six, V6, and V8 power plants were offered. The second generation also saw the introduction of the Sierra and High Sierra option packages. The Sierra package would eventually become trim levels starting in 1972 with the 3rd generation of the C/K line.

But is this one being offered at a fair price? Well, as we often do, we took a peek at the Classic.com data and the verdict is pretty clear. Looking at the one-year rolling average auction hammer price, we see that the 2nd generation C/K line averages out at $45,879. That’s higher than PJ’s Motorcars’ asking price. Add that to the fact that this 1500 is FAR from average, and we believe this to be an exceedingly fair deal.
