Car Cave searches out Toyota Land Cruisers from all around the globe and a proper left hand drive HJ61 is extremely difficult to find. We purchased this vehicle from Palmas d’Averyron, France, a warmer southern region of France. Manufactured at the Land Cruiser production facility in Japan and sold new in France on June 6,1988.
The Turbo Diesel HJ61 has been properly upgraded with only the creme de la crème of parts. Car Cave performed a complete mechanical review and performance upgrades, increasing both the power and offroad prowess of this 60 Series. The performance upgrades included a Mamabtek ball bearing Turbo and several products from Whistle N Soot of Wilsonton, Australia. WNS supplied us with a full 3” Stainless Steel, exhaust, custom intercooler kit, and upgraded air box to allow the diesel to stay cool and breathe better. More air equals more power on a diesel! All of WNS product is extremely well done, mandrel bent, tig welded, and truly a work of art. This rig has plenty of power with the boost from the uprated Mambatek Turbo set at an extremely mild level. The setup has been tested to increase horsepower up to 36% horsepower and torque up to 40%. The suspension is a special setup consisting of Dobinsons lifted castor corrected leaf springs which were modified for a better, less harsh ride. The softer leaf springs were paired with Dobinsons MRR 3-Way Adjustable shocks to dial in the suspension for a variety of uses. We finished off the look with a set of 285/75R16 General Grabber AT tires mounted on 16” Fifteen52 Black HD Analog Wheels.
This European spec, left-hand drive, 5-speed manual can chirp the tires with ease (first gear is not necessary). Boasting the renown 12H-T turbo diesel engine, which was used in Toyota's commercial applications due to its reliability and powerful torque, this HJ61 is powerful and the turbo is ready to spool. From the outside you will notice an increased stance, modern classic wheels, and larger off-road tires which complement the entire build but not overdone. The exterior has been resprayed by the previous owner and finished in the Dark Gray Metallic (paint code 155). The interior features the original “Turbo” embroidered interior with suspension front seats with the complete interior finished in shades of gray. A true comfort-built machine as the 60 series was the luxury offering in the LC line up. With an adjustable steering wheel, power window, power locks, power steering, and power brakes you’ll be living a life of luxury. The interior has been well kept with no major imperfections in the upholstery.

Electrical and interior work includes headlight and horn wiring repair, power window switch replacement, rear window motor and track lubrication, removal of unnecessary wiring, gauge wiring and installation, and shifter repairs including new bushings and clutch adjustment.
