When you think of the all-time great fourbie models, you just have to include Toyota’s venerated 4Runner. It’s an iconic purpose-built mid-size truck with style and grit, and this is a wonderful example from M&M Investment Cars out of Gladstone, Oregon. This highly-capable 2020 4Runner Venture Edition comes with some nice upgrades, only 25,000 miles on the odometer, and the remainder of the Toyota factory warranty. What a rig.
The Model.
The 4Runner, with its mid-sized body on frame construction was considered by many to be the REAL spiritual successor to the venerated Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 over the actual Land Cruiser FJ60, which was quite large and a bit less nimble. The 4Runner started in 1983 for the 1984 model year as essentially a short-bed pickup truck with a removable fiberglass canopy, giving it the signature 4Runner shape. It was equipped from the factory with a 2.4L 4-cylinder motor and a four-wheel-drive system that drove the front wheels through a solid front axle.
A little more than a quarter of a century later, Toyota introduced the 4Runner Venture Special Edition as an extension of the 4Runner’s TRD Premium Off-Road trim, packing the model’s most advanced off-road technology. For $1,815 more than the TRD Premium, the Venture package buys you blacked out badging, TRD emblem delete, blacked out mirrors, black door handles, a black rear spoiler, a Yakima MegaWarrior roof rack and an available sliding cargo deck. Oh, and most importantly, you get multi-terrain select, a locking rear differential and crawl control, which regulates vehicle speed while navigating tough terrain.
Those who know, tell you the Venture Edition is the better buy over the TRD Pro, which is quite a bit more expensive, but only really differs with a trick suspension. If you’re the kind that likes to modify your rig anyway, save your money and do it your way.
The Specs.
This is a rare 2020 Toyota 4runner Venture Edition with only 25,000 miles, which means that it’s still under the full Toyota factory warranty. It boasts a near-perfect interior with beautiful black leather seats with red stitching, but it really shines on the outside. It has Midnight Black Metallic paint that is in excellent condition, and tasteful exterior touches such as the aftermarket 17” wheels finished in matte bronze, a modest suspension lift and a nice looking TRD skid plate.
This is a nice rig and the 4Runner has a cult following. It’s going to sell quickly.
