The Mitsubishi Pajero, or Mitsubishi Montero as it was known in the United States for reasons that will become obvious when you inevitably Google the translation after reading the open, is a midsize SUV built by the triple diamond from 1981 to 2021. This particular Pajero is a second generation rig, which was built between the years of 1991 and 1999 and improved on the Pajero’s original formula by adding  some rounded body lines and a diesel motor providing some additional grunt.

The Pajero is perhaps most popularly known as the truck Mitsubishi owned the Dakar Rally with. The Dakar Rally has the reputation to be the ‘world's toughest race,’ starting in Paris and winding through the desert and plains of Africa, including some absolutely brutal terrain over the course of its 6,200+ miles.. Mitsubishi first got involved in Dakar in 1983, and claimed their first victory a couple years later in 1985. All told, Mitsubishi entered the Dakar Rally 26 times and won a total of 12 victories with an unprecedented seven consecutive wins to become known to all motorsports fans around the world as the “King of the Desert”.
