One look and it's clear as day, this truck commands attention, drives like a dream, and is turn-key ready to tackle daily duty.

Exterior Overview
The Land Cruiser 70 is a statement piece. Not only does it look mean as all get out pummelling down the pavement, it’s head turning while parked on the street, and can hang with the big boys off-road too. Finished in a rare Dark Blue Mica/Oyster Pearl (27Z), our 1995 Prado can also walk the walk, and is set off by a stylish optional front bumper guard, dual amber driving lamps, tasteful OEM rainguards, and a rear-mounted factory spare. Rolling on refinished 15″ factory alloy wheels, this tasty truck shows just 108k miles from new, and is underpinned by a durable turbodiesel drivetrain that can stand up to loads of abuse. One look and it’s clear as day, this truck commands attention, drives like a dream, and is turn-key ready to tackle daily duty. In other words, it’s a deserving Japanese Classic!

Interior Overview
For a chassis that debuted in 1981, you wouldn’t expect the interior to be so modern, but it holds up to 21st-century driving quite well thanks to its full slate of power amenities and spacious layout. Typically prone to cracks and UV distortion, the vinyl material on the dash is free of any major eyesores save for a couple of nicks, and the patterned cloth upholstery has resisted the better part of three decades with nary a rip or stain. In fact, we’d call the condition above-average overall. The same can be said for the headliner and carpets, too, which have been kept tidy underneath OEM carpet mats. Nestled in the center stack, manual climate control works like a charm, and cold A/C can be switched on and off at will. The heat blows hot, too, and an adjacent optional OEM touchscreen head unit works like a charm, although it is not original to the vehicle. To maximize storage space, the rear bench can tumble forward, and if you aren’t towing around a full squad, the optional third row can nestle snugly against the D-pillars. Enhancing ease of use in the modern age, all four power windows work as advertised, as do the power locks and electric side mirrors. The driver even has an electric lumbar support and a tilt-adjustable steering column. Save for some light steering wheel wear, a missing speaker grille, and a modified radio bezel, it’s hard to be picky with these classic interiors, and overall, this Prado really delivers.

Mechanical Overview
The exterior looks good, the interior feels good, but the drivetrain on this thing is where the money is! Power is supplied via Toyota’s durable 1KZ-TE, and this lovely body on frame beast is fresh off a comprehensive recent service here at the shop. We addressed a leaking valve cover gasket, with a brand new one, and installed new half moon seals so you get the most out of our fresh oil and filter service. We also buttoned up the 1K with all new accessory belts. For a boxy brute, the long wheelbase feels exceptionally stable, and the turbodiesel accelerates like a champ, delivering oodles of torque down low. An automatic gearbox sends power rearward, and 4WD can be engaged to maximize traction on loose surfaces. Bilstein shocks improve the ride quality tenfold, and to tighten up the drivetrain, we installed new rear radius arm bushings and front and rear panhard bar bushings. The power steering is light and easy to maneuver, and we replaced the outer tie rods to help this truck ace the state safety inspection. This rig eats up road imperfections large and small, and the brakes do a swell job at stopping this behemoth on a dime if need be. The refinished alloys are wrapped in brand-new Falken all-terrain rubber. Chock full of tread, they’ll take you anywhere and look great doing it!
