The beauty of the Xterra is without a doubt its rugged simplicity. If that’s what you’re looking for in a compact SUV, this 2015 Nissan Xterra PRO-4X 4WD should tickle your fancy. This 52,128 mile Xterra is for sale in Mesa, Arizona by The Car Connection for $29,995.

It comes modified to add additional off-road capability with Fox, Bilstein and Eibach suspension bits as well as sharp looking black Pro Comp aftermarket wheels wrapped in big fat knobby tires. What’s not to love?

“Everything you need, nothing you don’t.” That was the Xterra’s tagline when introduced to the United States. And that wasn’t just lip service, because in building the Xterra, Nissan focused on making it rugged, simplistic and affordable and eschewed the upmarket luxury that so many automakers were striving for with SUVs during its production run. 

It was a bit quirky, too, with an asymmetrical rear window, a bump-out in the rear tailgate that housed a first aid kit in the rear of the vehicle and even a roof that stepped up in the rear to allow passengers in the rear to better see the terrain the Xterra was about to tackle. But despite the quirky design, the Xterra was insanely capable, especially for an SUV in this price range (original MSRP of around $18,000). 

The Xterra was made from 1999 (2000 model year) through 2015, which doesn’t feel like long enough to us. We’re ready for the reboot and it sounds like Nissan fans and dealers are ready too, which The Drive covered recently here.

Apparently at a recent Nissan corporate meeting, the U.S. dealer board was more than enthusiastic about bringing back the light SUV back and made their feelings known. The COO of Nissan, Ashwani Gupta, remarked, "we've talked about the Xterra, but nothing's been decided," which doesn’t sound anywhere near a no to us.
